Default serious ? about conversion parts

i really am just in the mood to order stuff. I am doing the 1200 conversion to my '05 custom. Now->the stealer says about $2500 but thats with cylinders, heads, pistons, cam, ignition..etc. I have heard of some of you doing this conversion for about 800 bucks. Thats what sounds good to me and i know it's cheaper because you guys probably dont have different heads..cam..igniton bla bla. But i did buy a book and have been researching and seems to me like i can swap the cylinders and pistons and call it a day....at least for the time being. this true? i say "swap" cylinders because i would rather just buy new 1200 jugs then send mine out to get bored...don't want to wait and it's not much cheaper anyways. Anyways, just looking for your ideas on how you all went about doing this conversion...can i just buy jugs and pistons and be done til i get more money???..if so i'm ready to do some shoppin tonight!

On e-bay you can buy the cyliders and 1200 piston set for around $450.00 a set of cams n2 or n4 would cost you around $350. jet kit around $75.00 If you did the work yourself all you would need is the gasket sets . Easier to buy a complete James engine kit for $75.00. ..Mark..

Go with the NRHS 1250 kit for cyls and jugs. That's the way to go. I wish I had done that before I dumped money into my 1200 kit.

just wondering it seems like the 1250 kit requires me sending my stock jugs and them working on them correct? i'm tryin to stay away from that and just get new jugs all together...will they do this?...tried callin over there but they are closed

ITHINK they can do that and then you can have stage II work done to your 883 heads later - CALL NRHS!

The UPS man just dropped off my 1250 kit from NRHS and yes harleyj4585 they do send you new cylinders. I am keeping my stock 883 heads for now also, I might see if the local indy shop can do something with them though.
WhenI talked to NRHS they saidthe 1250 kitwill run fine with the 883 stock heads, it would of course have more power with stage work or 1200 heads though. I just don't have a lot of money right now so I'm gonna do the basic conversion and i imagine it will be a huge difference over the 883 which itself has some decent power.

I don't know if you saw the chart on their site or not but here's kind of a gauge of what you might be able to expect.
