Default Low fuel, half tank

Hi, my new XL1200C 2014 indicated "Low fuel", on my last trip, after only 180 Km, and when I went to fill it with gas, I was only able to fill in 9 liters whis is nearly half a tank. Is this normal?
Also I'm not able to display range by clicking the trip switch, like the manual says.

Seems odd right?

Not too odd. My 48 takes 2.1g, which is about 65-70 miles and the light comes on around 40. I just zero the trip and use that to fill up the tank when it get close to 60.

My new 2014 low fuel light comes on around 120 miles. 3 gallons or so used on a 4.5 gallon tank. Figure at least a 1/3 of a gallon is unusable due to the fuel pump being in the tank. Same thing on my Kawasaki Vulcan 1600. 5.25 gallon tank and only 4.7 gallons is usable.

You need to get the Harley Fuel Level Kit ($139) in order to get the fuel remaining (R) on the speedo to work. Without it, it skips it when using the trip switch to go through the settings.

there's been other threads discussing similar things. It seems everyone's bike's fuel light comes on at different spots. mine usually comes on when i have about a gallon and a half left out of 4.5gal.

That's funny since it doesn't mention that in the manual. I won't be spending $139 for it though, as it's not need-to-have.

To remedy the sporadic nature of the low fuel light, I reset a trip odometer every time I refuel. On my 48 I know that the light comes on around 55-60 miles and that I can make it to 75-80 miles with 0.2 to 0.3 gallons left(I have a 3" tank lift). After a few fill-ups you should be able to judge how much fuel you have left in the tank based on how many miles you've been.

Yup, just jack up the tank a little and the light comes on later. Ha!

I brought my 13 1200 c in today, [4.5 tank] light comes on with 2.50gal left...
The dealer called Harley support, There sending a resistor for the gauge, If that doesn't solve the problem then they'll change the whole unit. Guess Harley is going to change the cheapest part first then they'll work there way up.. I left the bike with them and told them call me when you get it fixed..
Luckily in have my T/G to ride...
