Default Helmet question

Newbie question...I'm looking at some full face helmets and I really like the look of the ROOF Boxer (doubles as a full and 3/4), however this is sold in Europe (meets their safety specs)and is not DOT...what are the risks of wearing this helmet here? Do people get stopped and checked for this type of thing? All of the American full face helmets look the same and I'm looking for something more along the sportster's lines. Thanks in advance!

Here is a link to the boxer:

Hey Fat Tire, I would think it totally depends on what State you live in and what the law is there. Personally, I have never heard of or seen anyone pulled over for not having a real "DOT" helmet which is required here in Massachusetts. I know of some who have been pulled over for other infractions and were then given a warning about the helmet. But, technically speaking if the officer wanted to bust your chops, they are within there right in MA to tow your bike for not having the proper headgear. I don't remember where the thread is but someone a while ago posted a website link with the laws in all the states, perhaps someone here will know for sure. As for the helmet, I would be interested too, as I usually where a skid lid only, but am looking for a full face for the colder temps. Technically speakingtoo, and not looking to start apro or con debate of dot or non-dot helmets, but if you want the helmet and it is required that it say "DOT" on the back, you can spend 99 cents and buy the sticker yourself.

Good info, and we think alike! That helmet just looks more along the lines of the sportster IMO, and I like the way the front rotates all the way back, I believe their are about 4 different configurations for that helmet which makes me less apprehensive about the price.

I doubt you would probably ever be ticketed for a non DOT helmet but it does happen. SeeAnubiss's poston this forum about beingticketed for not wearing a DOT approved helmet.
I have a DOT approved skid lid but I took the ugly DOT sticker off the back so I am probably at risk myself for being ticketed.

If you want the advantages of a full face with the flip-up chin bar there are alot of DOT approved ones out there. I have a Nolan. Schuberth also comes to mind. Check them out. Schuberths are rather plain but Nolan and others come with some pretty neat color designs.
