Default tranny oil

I'm new to this, I've been told I can use the 20w50 in the tranny also. owners manual says a different fluid. any suggestions? I plan on using Amsoil 20w50 motorcycle oil. I have a '88 anda '99 883.

I like synthetic. Amsoil fits that bill. I heard 20/50 works well. I never used it, but I did use formula + from HD. It worked well.

I use 20W50 Mobil 1 V Twin synth oil in both the engine and tranny/primary.

I switched to Mobile1 V-twin in both the engine and tranny about 1,000 miles ago. The difference in the tranny was evident almost immediately. Before I got out of my subdivision, I could tell a big difference in the clutch response, and the feel of the shifting. It's difficult to describe, best way I can think of, is that the tranny just seemes a lot happier.
