Why should I stick with my Sportster?

RE: Why should I stick with my Sportster?
lol - some great answers - I have already tried the V-rod and loved it!
But I love my sporty too!
Just wanted to know what people thought - I certainly wasn't asking permission! Maybe the biggest thing to think about is that this post has had nine replies while a post on the V-rod page asking for the same opinion has had none!
Guess I know where the passion is!

RE: Why should I stick with my Sportster?
Which model V-rod? It's a cool bike. The midnight special is my favority V. I rented a Night Rod on vacation a few months ago. It's a nice bike, but it's kinda goofy.
Pluses - GREAT handling at high speeds
Good speed at high RPMs.
Minuses - Bad handling at slow speeds
Seems uninspiring in lower RPMs.
Like I said - it's a goofy bike. Fuel tank under the seat?
I was pretty unimpressed with it for the first few hundred miles. On the highway it developed an irritating buzz that numbed me. (Yes, worse than a Sportster) It could've just been a maintenance issue. A while later I realized that it had a tach on the bikeand that I was shifting really low... at Sportster RPMs. I was getting on an on-ramp and decided to wind it out. The damn back end broke loose when I hit second.
To me the V-rod is a great bike to ride on occasions, but I wouldn't trade my Sportster for it.

RE: Why should I stick with my Sportster?
When I was picking up my newly purchased 883L this past Saturday there was abrand new Vrod sitting in the lot - I pawed it and it looked real sweet - looked triple MPH's just standing still. "some day" I thought to myself.
Then, I saw my Sporty sitting on the other side of the lot - and thought - "this machine defines Harley Davidson". To me, my black and chrome Sporty low is LOVE for life...the Vrod, maybe a one night stand!

I sat on a couple of V-Rods and thought they were pretty cool, but found the tube frame section that runs alongside the seat actually pressed against my inner thigh; seemed like it would be a leg nummer for sure. But if you like the bike, go for it. Part of the individuality that makes Harley owners unique sometimes means individuality from each other. Be your own judge. Let us know how you decide and good luck (toss the coin, if need be).
