Yeah buddy, it really don't take much of a surprise camber to unexpectedly make you lose your footing and throw you off balance.

But sure glad your wife, you & the bike are unharmed.

Keep on keeping on!

Thanks Dan but note that I carefully qualified that statement by writing "road bike". I've been down off the dirt bikes hundreds of times The best thing about this incident is that it happened on a rarely-traveled back road so there were no witnesses, LOL.

I'm glad that it's not as uncommon as I'd thought !

Cheers guys -

Gravel is my problem. My drive has it, the roads have it and most intersections have some sometimes even if it's asphalt. At 66, putting my foot down on something that just slides scares the heck out of me. I've dropped my bike once at my gate because of it. You every try to left a bike when you can't get good footing? It's impossible. But man was I sore the next day from trying.

I've crashed many times on dirt bikes but only laid a road bike over once.

I was 16 years old riding my '57 hard-tail home late at night and pulled off the road to put on another layer of clothes. Dim headlight didn't show that the 6" asphalt dropped off very sharply to some gravel ... the tires went off the road Ok but the asphalt rose up and hit the bottom of the front crash bar and pitched me over. I was only going about 5 mph. No damage except to my pride. I was a skinny kid but I managed to get that full-dress 74 upright by myself.

Glad you're Ok.

Embarrassing, I dropped my Sporty in the garage one day, I was sure the stand was down.

I think we consider a Sportster a light bike (in the Harley world), when they start to go over, you quickly realize how much they do weigh.

Good for you still riding at 70 man, I'm 62.
My garage floor is slick..thought the kick-stand was ready *boink*. Wrapped the mirror around to pinch my hand..but not a scratch anywhere.

Perfect name for the thread.. Zero mph 'crash'

Glad everything is fine.
