Default opinions needed on this oil leak :(

This is my 2008 Nightster that I purchased over the winter. When I got home from a short ride today I noticed this oil leak. It's a bit out of focus, but you can see where it dripped while I was riding. Any opinions on the matter? Thanks guys/gals. Unfortunately the 30 day warranty ran up last month with the dealer I bought it from(non HD dealer).

Rocker cover gaskets are like cheap rubber bands on that year. When mine went on my 07 I went to the dealer and got the updated gaskets for $8.00 for the inner and outer. They are the same thing as the cometic but way cheaper and just as good. It does not take long at all to change them.

+1.

I swapped mine with new ones from the dealer. I ordered cometic gaskets but never put them on.

I used this tool to remove and replace the bolts.

Be careful not to ruin your threads. Dont over tighten or you will be helicoiling the lower rocker boxes.

The covers are easier to remove from the left side of the bike. Shouldn't take more than two hours. Take your time.

My Sporty had leaking rocker cover gaskets right out of stealership - after I paid them mandatory $100 "to make sure everything is alright". The bolts were loose ...

thats for the inputs everyone. Maybe I'll start by just torquing them to the proper torque.

Just called the dealership just to see what it would cost me to have them do it. To change the gaskets on both rockerboxes they wanted $400!! also said that just for one gasket it would cost me $40? does any of this seem right.......I'll be doing it myself.

no, i think the 2 gaskets for each side are like 2 bucks each.
install price is right though. do a search on this thread for rocker cover replacement. there is a nice write up the how to section with pictures. I printed that out and did mine with no problems.
