Default Screaming Eagle Air Filter Kit Install Help

Hi all,

I am helping my brother install the Screaming Eagle Air Filter Kit p/n 29000009A.

I don't have a Manual for the Sportster, and there's one part that I'm not sure if I'm supposed to remove or not from the stock A/C kit.

Do I take this black bracket off, before I install the new Hi-Flow kit? The directions don't say.

Thanks in advance for anyone's help.

I haven't installed one of those myself, but there are only two options - yea or nay! Offer up the new backplate and see if it will fit the mounting on each head. I suspect that black bracket will actually get in the way, so then remove it and see if the backplate will fit properly. Just screw things together with your fingers first, to confirm it goes together OK, then tighten up to spec when you're happy.

Yes, and don't put the wrong screws in (too long) or you can crack your induction manifold casting.

Original Equipment (OE) Air Cleaner Removal
For carbureted models: Refer to the service manual and
check the warm-slow idle speed adjustment before removing
the OE air cleaner backplate.
For EFI (fuel-injected) models: Have a Harley-Davidson
dealer recalibrate the ECM prior to air cleaner installation.
2. Remove the air cleaner backplate following the instructions
in the service manual. Retain the two breather screws (A)
removed from the backplate (see Figure 1).The remaining
parts can be discarded.
3. See Figure 1. Remove and discard induction module
bracket (B).

Installation Video - It's on a BT, but shouldn't matter.

I've read that several people put too long screws in the three small holes on the induction manifold casting, screw them in tight, and in the process, crack the throttle manifold. Don't be that guy.
