Default Troubleshoot amp & speakers on Sportsters

Hey guys. I'm new to this forum. I just bought a 2006 xl1200c.

I got a good deal on a high mileage (48,000 miles) sporty. The bike is loaded and looked clean as a whistle so I had to take my chances and buy this bike. Hopefully it has been maintained at the regular schedule and will last another 50k!

The bike has speakers on here. No model or anything on the speakers/amp. Comparing them with online items, they look like the Pyle Cycle Series 1/2/3. The amp does no have a reset button on it like the ones in the picture.

Anyways, there is no sound or anything coming out when I plug a iPod in. I've tried multiple iPods and just touching the jack and I can't get any sound out of it. Does anybody have anything like this? There's no volume control or power switch that I can find on there. Is there anyway that I can test with a multimeter? Any suggestions/input would be appreciated! I can post pictures if needed.

Thanks!

Welcome, I have the same year/model bike as you.

I'd check the power input wire that is going into the amp for power, if it has power, I'd then check the ground... but first I'd check the fuse(s), it should have at least one on the amp.

Thank you! I will look at that when I get home and see if I can find a fuse on the amp.

It was the power wire. I'll have to find a aux wire to splice into. Also the speaker wires have a short around the harness somewhere. Might have to solder those together.
