Default Bad MPG with 08 nightster.

Im running 30-32mpg on a tank.. Not sure if its my short pipes or what, Santee LAF drag pipes, FuelMoto tuner, SE Stage 1 A/C. Also have a 2" tank lift, so my fuel light is coming on at 65-71 miles and when I fuel up then, it takes 2.25 gallons.

Anyone know what could cause it? Im guessing the pipes. I requested a new tune since I get a lot of popping when letting off the throttle and will be getting V&H 2into1 blackout soon, so hopefully that will help/.

Is the 30-32MPG riding around town in traffic, or cruising back-roads? What do your spark plugs look like?

Well the smokey burn-outs at every light don't help!

I would say that is pretty low as far MPG's go. I get any where from 40 MPG (in town) to 48 MPG (open road) on my '11 Nightser set-up similar to your bike.

Ive noticed it doesnt really matter, Mostly highway, out of the 71 miles I go before fueling up, 50+ are hwy.. riding it easy on a tank, mixed easy/hard riding, it stays about 30-32 mpg.

Havent checked the plugs, I dont think they'd cause a 10-14mpg loss. I had a 2013 72, short shots, stage 1 AC and same tuner, i got 40-42 mixed hwy/city and pretty much running 1,2 & 3rd gear out... Which is why I think it's these short @ss pipes.

i'd say slow down but, that would be double talk on my part... i damn sure dont. ******* riding burns gas

I average 65-80 around town and 98-110 on highway before the light comes on (3.2g tank)

swap out your plugs, check your tire pressure (stock is 30psi front / 40psi rear [confirm on your frame badge])... dunno after that...

It's not about them causing a MPG loss, it's about them telling you how rich/lean you're running. But since you haven't figured that out, I suggest you take it to someone that knows what they are doing when it comes to tuning bikes.

Also... what kind of gas are you running? You won't get quite as many miles on a gallon of ethanol gas as you would with real gasoline.

yeah, that's terrible mileage, that's why I only did slip-on mufflers on mine, no AC, no tuning, mileage is a tad better, I get 45-50 in a 1200c. but since you have a lot of money invested in tuning now it makes sense to stick with that route.

Have you checked your tire pressure lately? Low PSI will net you crappy MPG. Ask me how I know.

That's about what I get in my '08 nightster. It was like that before and after the tune. I don't even pay attention to it anymore. I fill up a little while after the low fuel light kicks on which is 50-60 miles.
