Default Code p0563

So about a week or so ago my Check engine Light would periodically come on. I looked at the codes and it threw a P0563, over charging. Look at this forum and people suggested maybe bad battery or connection or the voltage regulator. So, battery is about 2 1/2 years old and not a problem. Connections are tight and clean. So I ordered a new voltage regulator and changed it out yesterday. today light cam back on after about 10 minutes driving and stays on now unless I am at an idle. Any rev hight than an idle it is on for good. Threw the same code. So, If it something else you think or since it is always on now maybe the regulator I purchased from JP Cycles is bad? Basics, 2004 XL883. Also, will I damage anything if I ride it home with the light on?
Thanks.

P0563 = Battery Voltage High
Time to get out a digital volt meter and check the battery voltage with the motor at a higher than idle RPM. It should read between 13.8 - 14.8 VDC.

`Sounds like the voltage regulator is the only thing it could be if it`s overcharging, but a digital voltmeter will tell you for sure.

So I assume I have to disconnect the voltage regulator and put the volt meter leads in the plug for the regulator for a reading? yes?

No, measure it with everything connected.
