Yeah it tells you they've fallen for the bigger is better mentality that plagues our country. You can make a new Sportster into a decent touring solo bike for 1/3 of what you paid for your touring behemoth. The Sportster is probably the most bullet proof riding platform HD makes. By design its also the most poorly equipped bike on the show room floor. Imagine if the Sportster came with a awesome suspension and seat off the show room floor. I can ride my Sportster hours on end without getting a sore rear. That was after I upgraded the stock seat and suspension of course.

Another fact? The most repossessed bikes HD makes are Touring bikes I know a dealer that sells repo's 95% of his lot are EGs and SGs

Expert Sportster riders have skills! Also, Sportsters are really café racers. They were Harley's answer to the Triumphs that got popular in the 60's. Sportsters were designed to be race bikes and, back in the day, they did well at the track. It is a fallacy that Sportsters are entry level bikes. They were not designed for that purpose.

I was riding in the fifties. the sportster was fast machine , couldn't stay with the Triumph, Aerial, or BSA's. (on the street)...but was a good try.
As far as "entry level" I think most confuse that with "beginner bike"
It is not a "beginner bike"

entry to me means the cheapest way to get a Harley, hence the word entry.
(kinda like "your first house"

Does this argument work with you girlfriend? They KNOW bigger is better. It's OK everybody has to start somewhere.

Do they make these for Sporty's?

Ive got both an 883L and a Ultra classic. Love them both. I keep the sporty around for my little hot rod project. But the sporty is like riding a bicycle compared to the ultra.

I cant wait to do the 1250 Hammer performance upgade.

I laugh at the dudes with big bikes that claim to be more "manly". My favorite are the guys with streamers on their handle bars and bags on their fenders.

These are the Entry Level/beginner HD's. They come in a 500cc & 750cc configuration, with a liquid cooled engine.

I saw these at a local dealership a week or so ago...they were outfitting them to take the place of the Buells for the Riders Training Course.
