Sportsters are not Entry Level Bikes

Keep telling yourself that until you believe it. The number of trade ins to sportsters on this forum should tell you something..........mainly............what they really wanted was a motorcycle.

Another fact? The most repossessed bikes HD makes are Touring bikes I know a dealer that sells repo's 95% of his lot are EGs and SGs

Shortly after I got my Sportster, I started thinking that I should have gotten a bigger bike. However, the more I ride it and learn about Sportsters, the more I like it. First, Sportsters are harder to ride than the bigger bikes. They are more subject to the wind and have more vibration so it takes more skill to control than a heavier machine. Expert Sportster riders have skills! Also, Sportsters are really café racers. They were Harley's answer to the Triumphs that got popular in the 60's. Sportsters were designed to be race bikes and, back in the day, they did well at the track. It is a fallacy that Sportsters are entry level bikes. They were not designed for that purpose.
I was riding in the fifties. the sportster was fast machine , couldn't stay with the Triumph, Aerial, or BSA's. (on the street)...but was a good try.
As far as "entry level" I think most confuse that with "beginner bike"
It is not a "beginner bike"
entry to me means the cheapest way to get a Harley, hence the word entry.
(kinda like "your first house"

Yeah it tells you they've fallen for the bigger is better mentality that plagues our country. You can make a new Sportster into a decent touring solo bike for 1/3 of what you paid for your touring behemoth. The Sportster is probably the most bullet proof riding platform HD makes. By design its also the most poorly equipped bike on the show room floor................
Do they make these for Sporty's?

These are the Entry Level/beginner HD's. They come in a 500cc & 750cc configuration, with a liquid cooled engine.
I saw these at a local dealership a week or so ago...they were outfitting them to take the place of the Buells for the Riders Training Course.
