Sportster Front Fender Ideas/Help
Hey guys, I just bought a 2002 Sportster 883R that I am in process of converting to a cafe racer style bike. I am absolutely green here... so I could use some help.
I have the original front fender from the bike, but it isn't on. I'd like to shave/chop it down to a smaller look and put it back on the bike (I'm tired of eating mud).
1.) I don't have the mounting screws, any ideas where I can find some that will work?
2.) Are there any suggestions on best practices to shortening fender size, or am I better of having a custom one made?
Thanks,
Kyle

Most of the fasteners are SAE grade 5 or better standard thread. These are easily found at Fastenal or a large home center. You can also find packages of them in the Drag Specialties catalog.
Over time I've converted most all of my fasteners over to a chrome hex head type. It is, admittedly, a small detail but I like the look.

Some may argue as it is not truly defined, but a "true" cafe racer is "proper" when using (or removing) the original parts at hand. So, chop or remove it. Chrome coated bolts as stated above is my pref, and drilling new mounting holes or making struts is generally easy.
Lots of info on fender chops on youtube and here.
