UPDATE!
Still waiting on this guy to round up a coil for the bike so still havent rode/heard it. I dunno whats taking so long.
Talked to the owner a little more too. Says you have to shift slow and clutch doesent wanna catch in 1st gear, so cant start in 1st with clutch in or it will move the bike. Says clutch is REAL sensitive in adjustment. This sound major???
Maybe today will be the day, who knows.
Thanks burnie!

No need to apologize, I have been learing a load by reading this thread. IT has been a great thread.
Thanks burnie!

RE: UPDATE RE: I'm a rook
I'm starting to think this bike may be OK if you want to get it, tear it down to a stop, and then put it back together right. Little things are saying, "Trouble!" Bored to 1100, which can't be done with stock cylinders; fried coil, which can happen now and then or it can mean something ain't kosher with the ignition system; can't start in 1st gear 'cause the clutch grabs, and clutch is "sensitive", which means clutch is either toast, or the noodle head adjusting it hasn't a clue about the how-to; ya gotta "shift slow" which means who knows what, maybe shift forks bent or chipped, or tranny gears with a few teethe knocked off, or maybe just the already known to be screwed up clutch.
Gut feeling? If'n you ain't a die-hard Iron Head rider with a good bit of mechanical skills, take a pass on this thing. Or offer him $800 as is, and take it home to learn how to wrench.

whoa! $800?? That bad huh? Maybe I should re-think this. I was thinking it was worth $3k or so.
Man, ever get that sinking feeling???
Looks like I will not be joining your ranks HD guys

RE: UPDATE RE: I'm a rook
Really dont have much $$ to spend anywhere! However if I could find someone to trade me for my Jeep that would be great. I really like the look of the older sportsters more than the EVO. The older the better if you ask me. I dont mind working on the bike you see, I just want to avoid a lemon.
I am utterly disapointed. I have been eating, sleeping, and dreaming about sporsters for like 3 weeks. This one in particular. But with this guy taking his sweet *** time fixing it combined with the fact that EVERYONE says stay away I dont think I can do it.
