Default Looking at a 2001 sportster

Hi, I am new to the site, and a guy from my work has a 2001 Harley Davidson 883 with the buell high compression 1200 kit. The bike has 5,000 miles. The only thing is, it has sat for several years. I was wondering if this is a problem, I have not seen the bike yet. He is asking $4100. Is there something i should look for, or stay away from with it sitting for so long. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

It'll be fine as long as the cylinders have stayed dry and you change the oil before doing anything. My mate bought a 1991 that sat for probably four years plus, new gas, plugs, oil and battery - boom, up she went!

Its very low mileage for a 2001, and $4100 is about 2.5 grand in good old queens sterling, so really it depends on how long its been sitting and the condition. The 91 my friend bought we haggled the guy down and go it for like 650 pounds, but it was in a bad shape really. Then again I am in the UK, so the market may be a completely different beast over there.

Who did the conversion? Receipts?
That's not a terrible price for a running and State inspected bike. Maybe, a little high, and you might do better, but the mileage is low and if you trust the guy (I'd guess you know him a little bit), it'd be better than buying from a complete stranger.
Show up with your truck, cash, a loading ramp and offer him $3,500. See what he says.

Thanks guys! He doesn't have a whole lot of answers for the questions I ask, and is firm at 4100. I'm just going to pass on this one, I don't feel like paying that much for a bike the owner doesn't know much about. Thanks again!

I've got an 02 883 bone stock. My son made me wait till we found one for 3 or less. Now while the upgrades are worth a lot, you just never know. I've been making upgrades and none are free, but I know where I started and I know the work that I do isn't falling off on the ride, and my repair manual is accurate. The best part is when you make changes you really feel it!
