Default Do I really need to take the pipe off to put the passenger peg on?

Putting the passenger pegs on my Seventy Two last night, and I could not get a wrench in to tighten the lower bolt on the right side because the pipe is in the way. I have a wobbly extension, and it gets in enough to make a few turns, but not enough to torque it properly. I put loc-tite on the bolt and torqued and loc-tited the upper bolt, but anyone got suggestions to make sure that lower ****er is on there right without having to take the rear pipe off?

I had a bitch of a time with my Nightster as well. Ended up using a ball head allen wrench (I think, it's been a while) and snugging it down. Probably would've been easier to take off the exhaust pipe with all the time I spent messing around.

Swing by the tool store and pick one up. Someone in Milwaukee needs a dick punch for that design flaw.

Yeah use I used a ball end hex wrench on my '11 iron. A long one from harbor freight on a socket.

haha guess theres no more guy with a +1 sign.. but yup what he said..exactly that just enough of a angle to get in there..i used a micro fiber cloth inbetween the pipe and the socket to just be that extra careful..

I pulled my passenger pegs off my low. It was such a pain in the ***** trying to get it off, that I pulled my pipe. I tried various extensions and flex heads, all for not.

I had to remove the exhaust on my 14 iron. It was the only way to remove the abs unit

I think halfway through putting them on I cut an allen wrench down with a bench grinder or something to shorten it so I could install the passenger peg. It was a bitch.

Well other than what others have said - you don't need to remove the pipe but you can loosen it, that is how I did mine..

I'm going through this exact same thing with my 2007 XL1200L. Right side lower bolt hole is immediately behind the pipe. There's no room at all to turn the wrench. I'll go get the ball head tomorrow and see if that works but I might just end up having to loosen the pipe.

What a big pain in the butt just to put on the passenger peg. And why didn't it come with passenger pegs in the first place. Bastards. LOL
