My 06 XL883R started this bout a couple months ago, starts up and idles fine when warmed, up but after a 20min. ride into town she won't idle, If I keep the rpm above about 750rpm she'll stay running but let her drop to idle and she spits an coughs an dies. Whats really weird is some times she acts fine.
more times than not though she runs bad at idle. Open road performance is great, plugs read normal, not lean, checked for intake leak, none found.
Any one got any clues??????? Bassini pro street pipes are the only non-stock things on engine. Killer

 

Have you cleaned / replaced your air cleaner filter??

 

750rpm is too low for idle rpm. Adjust your idle to factory spec.

May not sound kool but kool dont keep the bike running.

 

If you let your bike idle below 960 rpm's you will starve the top end of oil.

 

Add 1 "0" To that rpm. My bad. Air cleaner is ok. If the module is bad would the ck engine light be on? Killer

Then that would be 7500 RPM, which is well above the red-line of the motor and well past where the rev-limiter would have kicked in.

 

Never mind- thanks. Note--- all my other HD's idle at around 500 and have yep to lock up, stop oiling the top end etc. I was just wondering if any one had had this problem with one of these newer 883's. All my other HD's are pre 90's. Killer

Your Sporty EVO motor is designed to idle at 1000 RPM, +/- 50 RPM.
