Whatever the speed limit is I won't be more than 5 over.
I'm with you, the fines are too steep. Although I had to open her up the other day to see what a 1200 will do, I'm impressed.
Do you guys mean rev/speed limiter.....when you hit the redline in5th gear

Below is a table, showing RPM vs speed in various gears, based on, as best I can recall an 2005 1200 XL with stock drive train. An 883 would be different, as may other models/years.

For example, 3000 RPM in 5th gear is 66 MPH.

I found this in another forum, and would give credit, but my memory fails me. In any event, I'm not smart enough to figure it out on my own.

Just a thought - my maximum break-in speed (3500 RPM for XL1200C) is about 70 MPH for the first 500 miles. I would think that this could indicate that 70 - 80 would be a reasonable cruising speed for a fully broken-in engine.

Hey thanks for the response. Great info, gives me a little more confidence. She whines when I stick to 70 and is always passing me.
Lucky man, your wife sounds like my kinda Sporty rider. I go on trips, if on the interstate, I usually cruise between 80 - 85...not a problem.
