new to harleys looking at an 90 883 sportster. any thing i need to know about this model ? an 883 and a 1200 are the same except for cu in? same frame etc.

Yes, an 883 and 1200 are basically the same.

The only drawbacks, if you consider them to be drawbacks, is that a 1990 has a chain and a 4 speed. 1991 and later got belts and a 5 speed.
