Iron tank replacement or re-paint?

Iron tank replacement or re-paint?
I managed to smudge/smear the paint on the 'son' letters on 'Davidson' on the right side of my Iron's fuel tank (black denim).
Unfortunately, I had a little "run-in" with a rubber-coated post along the side of a road with some broken pavement. Fortunately, that was the worst that happened.
The tank is fine...no dents or even scratches...it just looks like the paint on the lettering is "smeared".
I'd rather not replace the tank, but I'd really like to get those letters re-touched up if that's possible. If not, then I guess I'm looking at getting the tank re-painted.
Can anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks in advance.

Hello, I've had several issues with my tank as well (damaged at the factory so it was under warranty).. One tank I had, was "repainted" and the flat/matte black that my painter did was not the same as the factory paint, even with the matching color codes. It had a "glossy matte black" look to it, not the nice rough matte finish to it. The factory look is impossible to match, unless you end up covering the Harley-Davidson letting since that is screen printed on the tank at the factory, or so I was told.
Did you try a little bit of gas to remove the smear?

No problem... Maybe this could work?

It would be uneven though, maybe you'd have to give it a coat of clear/matte, to even up the sticker to the rest of the tank for a smooth finish
