Default Thinking about getting a late 60's early 70's Ironhead.

No idea why. I just started looking around at them. They are awesome looking. I want one unmolested and maybe even restored already. I live in NYC so working on one to being it back to life is a no go.

Anyone have one?

I restored a '72 XLH and it went to Japan. 1972 was the last year of production in Milwakee. It was also the last year for drum brakes. For '73, AMF was tooled up in their new York, PA (?) plant and the '73 had a disc brake. 1976 was the last right side shifter sold. You definately want at least a right shifer if you are going to ride an Ironhead.

For pre-AMF sportsters, the source of all knowledge can be found on www.xlforum.com Some of these guys can tell you what the correct finish should be on a particular nut.

If you are lookin, the XLCH (kicker) is preferred over the XLH (electric) and everyone seems to have a big boner for the 1969.
