Default 1200 Sportster 1992 low miles not started for 20 years

Thinking of buying a 1992 sportster, super low miles, hat has not run for 20 years. Seller claims to have been in a very dry storage, seals and cables look good. Any advise? problems, what to expect. Thanks.

I buy every bike I find in that condition and never go wrong. If its clean, and a good price load it on the trailer and go. One thing I do is I generally never even try to start them until I change the oil, clean and inspect the tank, and clean the Carb. Good luck.

Unless he's asking under $2k for the bike, I'd keep looking. I'd also be curious to know more about the "very dry storage". Needless to say, Florida's known to be a very high humidity state of corrosive salt air. 20 years is an aweful long to be sitting unused.

Sounds interesting. If the price is right and it's in decent shape, give it a shot. Put in some new oil, squirt a little in the cylinders, charge the battery and see if she fires. Run some Seafoam through the tank and carb. Who knows?

That's a $2,000 bike assuming the mileage is low and condition is very good. And for $2,000 I'd take a chance. I suspect it will need tires and a battery. Replace all fluids before attempting to start.

I would buy it...before starting it i would change the oils and battery, pull the plugs and spray some CRC power lube in the cylinders and pull the air cleaner and spray a good amount more CRC in the carb. making sure to get it in all the little holes in the carb body and on the butterly shaft and the slide, then I would let it sit over night to soak in, while waiting I would check all the electrical connections for corrosion and give them a good spray with the CRC (it won't hurt nothing), pull the gas tank off and dump it and give it a good rinse with gas and dump it again, reinstall it and add a gallon of gas.. then I would turn it over ( the motor, not the bike) with the plugs out a few times...reinstall the plugs and try to start it (outside, as it will prolly smoke like crazy)....if it starts, take a good look at the brakes, tires and wheel bearing and if all looks good go fro a short ride...then come back here and tell us how it went...

Good find. I would jump for that price. Get it running, worst case is you can make $500 on it. 25% profit not a bad flip.
