00'+ Softail Wheels on 97' Sporty?
So I found a set of thunderstar wheels locally and seem like a good deal at the price (500 for the pair) and I was wondering if they would mount up to my 1997 Sportster 1200?
The ad says they will fit 2000 and later fxst, fxstd, fxsts, fxstb, fxdwg, and more. I am hoping I can just flip the rear and get a proper sized rear rotor to run with the sporty stock caliper? And I was also planning on doing a chain conversion so I figured at that time I could take care of any alignment issues there?
Also does anyone know the widths? its a 21+16 wheel combo I was ideally going to try and run a a 80 or 90 up front and a 130-140 in the rear, Im assuming these rims will run the tires I want no problem?

Ok so I found a chart for the thunderstars, it says they can be set up to fit a 2000 XL, so would I actually need a wide glide front end? I thought my 97 and a 2000 ran the same 39mm narrow glide front end? And so with the chain drive, proper spacers, and rotor size the rear should bolt right up?

I'm not sure what a thunder star rim is but , off a softail the hub is to wide. Brake rotor & all. The rear is at most (you might get lucky) spacers and maybe bearings. Someone might know better but, we just swapped from a 2004 sportster to a 2002 softail and it needs bearings and spacers.

Im trying to get ahold of the seller to see if he can give me anymore info I believe if axle sizes are the same I can swap bearings and respace...I suppose if I can talk him down on the price they will just be parts for another build if they don't work on the sporty...and I was thinking about doing a wide glide conversion for a while

Your '97 has tapered roller bearings and the 2000 wheels are probably ball races. Your brake rotors and rear pulley will not swap over, as the central holes are too small (the later bearings have a larger OD, hence the change). You can probably make things work, but not as a bolt-in.
It is our duty as Harley owners to prove that we can shuffle parts around between models and years, even if they are not supposed to fit, but that can be a challenge at times!
