Default Rough start

Hey everyone! I'm new to the forum and was just in need of some help. I own a 2013 sportster 72, and I'm not very mechanical. I have noticed that my bike seems to be starting up a little rough. It struggles a bit to turnover and doesn't do so very smoothly and was wondering what could be causing that?

"it struggles a bit to turn over"...makes me think possibly a battery. check the grounds and battery cables for tightness. do you have the bike on a battery tender? i plug mine up after every ride when i get home.

No mods to the bike yet, haven't changed the oil since the 1000 mile service, and am about 3500 miles now so I was curious if that was the reason for the rough start,my first bike and I just want to learn basic maintenance so I can work on my bike at least a little bit. But I will check my battery cables and see if they're loose!

Sportsters only have a 12ah battery and high compression.
Sometimes they will struggle against the compression of the engine, or the starter might even stall for half a second or so especially when hot.
If this is what you mean, it's normal.

It might just be the air temperature, does it run good after it's warm?

Too many possibilities with only a vague description of the symptoms. Let the dealer fix it under warranty.

What you described in post 1 and 8 are totally different things?

Not really.

The bike is a 2013 and for all we know, this is the first winter he's owned it.

For all we know, he's just experiencing a bit of a rough cold idle, OR it's cold and the battery is sluggish (normal in the cold weather).

He admits he's not mechanically inclined and the bike is under warranty.
I see no reason not to take to to someone that knows what they're seeing and hearing under warranty.
