Default 98 Sportster Forward Controls

Hey guys! Im trading a guy my stock mid controls off my 98 Sportster for the forward controls off his 01 Sportster. Before I go further, these should fit my bike with no major problems right? I turn my own wrenches, so I think it shouldn't be too hard to put them on. But can anyone give me a run down on what I need to take off my bike to give to him for his forward controls? (Bolts, mounts, linkages, etc.) Thanks in advance!

Look at a forward control kit online (HD site) so you can see all the parts involved in this swap. Pretty much everything you remove to get them off (less the pegs, if you're keeping) will be required.

Forward controls from 1991 model to 2003 model Sportsters should be interchangeable. However, they might not fit if you have certain aftermarket exhaust systems. If I remember correctly, mid control components should include the pegs (or not) and mounting brackets (the important part), the shifter, the brake pedal and mounting shaft ... same as for right side peg (I think), and it's clevis that screws into the master cylinder.

Sorry to bring up an old thread. But I'm considering the exact same scenario for my bike.

I have a 1998 883 with mids. And I might possibly swap them for forwards off a 2001.

To the OP. What parts did you end up taking off. Did you have to swap the motor mounts?
