i am betting that they changed your tranny oil, and primary oils, and if its synthetic or lighter oil, you will hear a whine, its the tranny gears meshing together, i dont think there is anything wrong
also on a lot of newer bikes the piston/rings will whine in the new tight cylinders as well, due to a certain designed cylinder wall

Thanks - I always use 93 octane (local 76 carries it), and now (as of this Saturday) I'm using Lucas Safeguard for ethanol buffering. I just changed the tranny oil (to Mobil 1 full synthetic gear oil) a couple of months ago. It hasn't lost any fluid (I park it on a surface that shows any leak - so far there have been none). I did check my adjuster nut, but I'll do it again just to make sure.
I'm wondering as well on whether some bad gas got into the 93 octane supply for one of my fillups.
I'm just going to keep riding the bike at this point, though - not much else to do.
