Around 70 on the interstate mine will get to 225. I have not seen it higher so I don't think I need a cooler. I run Red Line 20W50 so I'm good.

Good oil temps especially seeing it is in the low 90's here with oppressive humidity.

huh I thought it would stick out more but it looks pretty good!

Agreed. The Jagg doesn’t stick out very
far IMHO, however, I chose to mount the
cooler higher using a custom mount.

I'm running Redline too, but even with it, 250* isn't something I'm comfortable with.

I was going to go with the HD cooler with the Jaggs adapter since it has a thermostat, and it is cheaper than the Jaggs but, the HD cooler does appear to be wider than the Jaggs. That is why I went with the Jaggs cooler to keep it as compact as possible

I wanted to mount it higher but, I have relocated the turn signals down to the lower fork clamp on the triple tree. I had to go lower to allow clearance between the cooler and the signal housing when the bars are turned all the way left.

The adapter arrived a few days ago, it is cast aluminum and it looked to either have a black oxide or almost looks like a parkerized finish. I found this paint I had and painted it so it would closer match the engine cases.

I removed the oil filter and found the filter nipple was loose and tightened it down. Something I guess everyone should be checking regularly.

I installed the oil filter adapter using the new adapter nipple. Only thing I wasn't too happy about was, it is made from aluminum. Steel would have been a better choice IMO as aluminum and steel expand and contract differently and it could cause it to loosen up although I did put a couple of drops of blue loctite on the threads. Time will tell... I used a small piece of wood cut into a wedge to stop the adapter from rotating when tightening it up.

Finished the adapter install, wrapped the lines in a plastic bag and waiting for the cooler and frame mounts to get here. USPS has them out for delivery today, should be here any time.
What kinda oil temperature was you getting that you disused to go with the cooler

I would normally see 220-230* unless I was running 70 mph or more, then the temps would hit 240*ish. Last Sunday my son and I were out and riding home in 95* temps at 65-70 mph and I was just under 250*. This is at the tank using the HD analog gauge.

Yesterday after installing the cooler and in mid 90* temps after 25-30 miles at 70 mph I was seeing 215-220* oil temps. My son and I are headed back out shortly and be out most of the day. It's going to be in the low/mid 90's again so I'll be keeping an eye on the temps to see if they remain lower on longer rides.

Has anyone ever had a major failure due to high oil temp on a Sportster?
Or, are we just talking extended engine life by keeping it lower?

MMMM ?
Highest ive seen is 220 at the tank with the same oil dipstick / analog temp gauge, that was riding 2 up @60mph on a 80’ day so I’m guessing we’re pretty close.
Love that synthetic, just for that little extra peace of mind.

Thx buddy 🍺

Agree on the synthetic...per Mobil 1 conventional oil starts to break down at 250F while they claim V-Twin 20W50 can take 300+ degrees without damage.

Thx for the read mate ,but just thinking now. That if the oil is 220 in the tank, it’s gotta be somewhere around 20’ up at the crank and mains.
And from what I’ve just read, the Dino oils just getting ready to sheer.
