Started installing the oil cooler and adapter.

The adapter arrived a few days ago, it is cast aluminum and it looked to either have a black oxide or almost looks like a parkerized finish. I found this paint I had and painted it so it would closer match the engine cases.

I removed the oil filter and found the filter nipple was loose and tightened it down. Something I guess everyone should be checking regularly.

I installed the oil filter adapter using the new adapter nipple. Only thing I wasn't too happy about was, it is made from aluminum. Steel would have been a better choice IMO as aluminum and steel expand and contract differently and it could cause it to loosen up although I did put a couple of drops of blue loctite on the threads. Time will tell... I used a small piece of wood cut into a wedge to stop the adapter from rotating when tightening it up.

Finished the adapter install, wrapped the lines in a plastic bag and waiting for the cooler and frame mounts to get here. USPS has them out for delivery today, should be here any time.

You did a neat job with this bike. I like it. Not a huge* fan of the pipes, but to each his own. I really like the tank and graphics. Clean, simple, old school!

Tore her to pieces! Front end and some other misc. pieces torn down for black powder coat. Been meaning to do this for a long while now, but the thought of being bike-less while things got coated always had me putting it off. Finally bit the bullet yesterday. Too bad she'll be down for the 4th!
Can't wait to get her all put back together with the freshly powdered parts.

The cooler and frame mounts arrived this afternoon, got everything mounted up, and took the bike out for a test run for 20 miles or so. So far no sign of any leaks AND where I was seeing oil temps in the 230-240* range at 70 mph, I am now seeing 210-220*F. Good oil temps especially seeing it is in the low 90's here with oppressive humidity.

I rode my Sportster today and with the near 100 temps it was rough. But I had a good time. Oil temp never got over 200 but I was on the back roads.

That's about what I would see riding around 50-60 mph, temps in the 200* range. Crank it up to 70 mph or so and things start to heat up fast. Last weekend my son and I went out for a few hours and it was HOT, on the ride home I was seeing REAL close to 250*.

I was going to hold off and do the cooler this winter, but after that, and seeing the forecast is for heat and alot of it this summer, I decided to do it now.
