Thanks for commenting.
if it's making you nervous or making the bike unstable, mod. always use straps to secure the bike.

saw this pic last night of a guy who had his whole bike balanced on a single scissor jack. had the rear wheel off too. THEN asked if it was secure like that :O
I was more amazed he got it high enough balanced on a single jack, and was able to take the wheel off without dropping it.

how?!

Looks like the front wheel is still touching the floor and since you
cant see underneath, I suspect he has a 2x6 (or 8) straddling
the frame that the sissors pad is on.

IMHO, it still doesnt seem very stable or safe...

Thanks. Without the straps, bike will rock a bit. No way I would lift it without strapping it. It's solid as is. Won't move. My question was more about the capacity of that crossmember to bear the weight of 50% of the bike. Me worrying over nothing.

It looks like he has a floor jack or bike jack with a red bottle jack attached to it underneath the jiffy stand or the left side of the frame as well. You can see the handle and part of the red jack on the left side of the bike. I think he is using both together to lift the bike.

I only used a bottle jack when I replaced my tires. I just kept the jiffy stand on the dining room floor to balance it. It was actually pretty sturdy and was not a problem at all. Sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do to get the job done until you get the right tools to do it the way it should be done.

Another way to lift the bike is with a DIY lever jack, some make then from planks and pipe but I had some scrap steel (and a welder ;-) handy so I used that instead...these will lift either end of the bike depending on where you place it.
