Took it out for blast today. Rides great, not sure if it’s me or the removal of the mostly chrome stock 39mm front end, but it seems way faster now... lol
It’s actually quite nice, just have to get use to the lower bar height with the 48’s 1” built in riser. (+2” riser blocks I’ve installed)

Whew!!
Got the motor mounts in, and tidied up everything I wont need to start the Rocker Boxes.
tightened up the lower front stabilizer brackets before getting the top bracket on, that doesnt work, lol
Had a bit of a fight getting the rear brake back on since I put the tire on from the other side and uh, well forgot about it till after I had the axle in. Luckily I hadnt aligned the tire, so I was able to undo it and get it squared up.
One question though, the swing arm bearings were a bit crusty on the left. See picture. I cleaned up the rotating part and it moved freely, so I just used it. I don't see why the swing arm would need to rotate around the bearing so I left it but I need to take the wheel off to replace it soon so I figured I'd ask. Bit crusty on the outside. But I cleaned up the middle and moves rotates 180 degrees freely now.

Started today like this
Getting closer. Now on to rocker boxes

So I had to modify the 48’s speedo housing/bar clamp to accommodate the 2012’s factory indicator light module.
i think it came out OK..

Nicely done!

Currently trolling Craigslist for an old Jeep for my wife. Any suggestions on what to look for or look out for? Better years/worse years, motors, other? She requires a manual transmission (love my wife) and that's about it. She doesn't even care if it has A/C etc. Just a fun weekend/beach toy. Gotta be "cheap" though! Most I'm seeing are between 5k-9k

Mine looked a bit like that, and could feel just a little play in them; got new bearings and had the same amount of play in the new ones. Pulled the grubby looking old ones anyway, put the new ones in, and then thought I'd just see if I could clean the crud off the old ones to actually see what the metal looked like. Damned things cleaned up just like new, could have reused them. There are sealed spherical bearings, but I couldn't find any to fit.

When I put them back in, since there are no seals, I covered the snap ring (new one, it didn't clean up nice) with tacky red grease, and two years later it still looks decent. Didn't have a proper puller for that bearing but thought it would be easier to mickey mouse something than try holding it all together on the hydraulic press. Heavy bolt, odd & ends, came right out with no fuss.

Any 90s+ is fine. The leaf spring models will reconfigure your spinal cord. they hold their value. 2007+ ran a smoother transmission. engines in them were the same for years. Changed mid 2000s. The amc 2.5 engine (4 angry squirrels) and 4.0l were around for years and are both bullet proof.

You are really just looking for rust, stupid lift jobs, and busted 4wd systems. The rest is just as modifiable as a harley, history nearly as long too. The engines are easy to work on too.

Had mine since undergrad. Driven it across the country and back twice. Love it to death. You really gotta drive one to understand.
