What did you do to Your Sportster Today?

Spent another 4 hours polishing a 3rd fork leg after realizing that I needed to change to a 4 piston caliper to make my craigslist front wheel work.
It took 4 hours because I don't have much in the way of power tools.
Trying to do as much as possible with as little as possible.
Craig
files and 320 grit
400 grit
wet 800 grit
wet 1500 grit
Mother's

Dunno what happened to make him want to paint it black. The problem with trying to sand off the cr@ppy paint is this stuff loads up the sandpaper. Junk paint.... never really dries hard. Media blasting is an option... Not really in a hurry to fix it but it's ugly.

I have used this stuff on more then 1 occation. Its amazing. Spray it on. Wait about a half hour. Come back and wipe it off. Boom! Bare metal. Wear gloves and eye protection and stay in fresh air.
Clean of your metal and prime and paint to your hearts content.
Also comes in cans for paint on applications.

Today I installed the freshly painted Nightster rear fender, done up to match my factory paint scheme (xl1200c). I also installed an under mount brake light, the module that converts the t/s to brake lights and installed my home made plate relocation bracket. Next time I post, will be with the 49mm fork conversion done. Just waiting on the call from local HD shop, to let me know my parts are in.
Nicely done, looking good! Curious what brand of tire are you rolling on your sporty? And how do they ride? The reason I ask is there isn't a lot of choices for laced wheels. I'm assuming your front is 130/90 16 and the rear is 150/80 16

Metzler ME880 Marathon, and yes to the sizes. They handle fairly well for my style of riding. I dont ride the sporty like I rode my sport bikes, but I do push it into the curves a little bit, when I’m in the hills. I haven’t had any issues with the Metzlers..

Try some gasoline. Yup, pure petrol. Try to take some of the black off with it. If that stuff is typical rattle can ****, it will melt right off. If there is factory paint underneath it, the factory stuff will resist the gasoline nicely. You may end up with a presentable fender underneath that mess.
Paint stripper or sanding will destroy the factory finish that might be under there.
I've done this in similar situations, just not on a motorcycle fender.
