We have not got that cold yet...but it's coming!
On the heated jacket or vest....
For decades I wore layer upon layer and always said I was not cold (and believed it)....but a few years ago when I started using a heated jacket liner it was amazing...even at 30* I was actually warm (and realized that I never really was warm before, just less cold)....
Plus I no longer look and move like Ralphie from the Christmas story.

I'm really impressed with the 12v system. My 7.2v gloves worked and do...but they just really took the chill off my hand/fingers. These HD 12V/Gerber gloves actually feel WARM!
THANKS!

I replaced the belt guard with one from a 2016 48 with the slots.
The original broke just above the rear mount.
The part numbers have been updated and the area around the rear mount beefed up.
New one-
2016 48 Slotted 60300115 BELT GUARD
Updated part number for XL1200C
2016 1200C 60367-04A BELT GUARD
Original 2013 part number-
2013 xl1200c 60367-04 BELT GUARD
The old broken belt guard on top of the new one showing the rear mount point being wider:

I believe it! Thanks for the input. I've a great HD leather jacket but I've wondered about the heated vest. Think you just synched the deal for me... I've a closet of HD jackets and various thickness riding jackets. The vest may allow me to use some of them more often with a heated vest.
I'm really impressed with the 12v system. My 7.2v gloves worked and do...but they just really took the chill off my hand/fingers. These HD 12V/Gerber gloves actually feel WARM!

With a heated vest and gloves, you'd think fingers plus core, is happy.
Having the jacket, instead of the vest, makes it happier.
I've ridden with heated socks, and that's happiest.
Watch your Amperage draw. Had to bump-start an old Honda 1100, after running heated gear and stopping for lunch (it's fun as Hell watching a couple of your Harley-riding friends push a Honda, looking in your rear-view mirror, laughing, while sitting in a Honda's saddle).
Having individual on/off switches, I could alternate gloves and socks for the ride home, and the battery had enough juice to start the bike after rest stops (I might have been pushing it by myself, after the first episode).
Charging output on newer bikes is decades better, but check your specs.

I'm just curious why you didn't source one of the Buell style rearset shifters? In the later years they would just bolt onto the engine. The originals were a bit of Rube Goldberg, but by the 2000s they were specifically designed for each model. Using one of these you will still have the standard shift pattern.
