Not sure itll stay. I did f-up the painting a bit, tried to balance it on two posts on the inside but it fell over, so I had to respray the one side. it does say to coat it thick but i think maybe the extra coats were what made the wrinkles so heavy
no shame in that, you should have seen the rocker covers i rattlebombed with hd wrinkle black. They were terrible. Came out looking like a tweed jacket with a houndstooth paytern. I ran them on my bike for a week or so... couldn't take how bad they looked... i still have them as a reminder of my suckage. Luckily i bought some spares off ebay for that project.

Decided to change the 'look' of the intake setup
(external breather system as well) so I mail-ordered some
parts. Bummer is that I went all the way over to Strokers Dallas
cause I figured they'd have them in stock, but no dice...
Oh well, not like I need them today....

Found a Japaneese website that shows USD. Looks like it'll cost
anywhere from ~$750-850 per wheel and $100+ for shipping....

Default prepping for paint tonight

so the inside of the tank is cured and I picked up a can of SprayMax clear about 15 miles from my house yesterday.

Today Ive removed the side covers, fenders and the speedo bracket and Im gonna try my had at painting.

Im still undecided on color but while I was looking for something my tow storage/tow compartment in my jeep I came across a couple cans of paint. Kind of like a burgundy color. So to save me a trip...Im going see how it turns out. Im thinking fenders, speedo bracket and tank burgundy and leave side covers black?

Heres the cans I have...

burgundy satin I guess is the color, this shall be interesting.

before..with my wicked motivator haha (very nice hard cider if youre into them)

parts removed

after removal

de-greased and ready for some light sanding, primer and paint..

wish me luck!!

Talking

Gave my wife a ride to our dealer so that she could pick up HER Sporty! She just took the Riding Academy last weekend and got her "M" endorsement this week, and today she picked out a Black Cherry/Pewter '07 1200C that has a few extras on it. Can't wait to put some miles on together!

Getting back from the test ride. You can see the smile under her helmet!

I think she likes her ride!

Hers and mine.

So far so good. Gaining confidence. Very glad I went with the Iron and the mods I picked without overdoing it. The good folks of this forum were really helpful. Amazing how you think of more things you want to change as time goes along. Thinking about highway pegs. I wish they came with the bike and folded up like passenger pegs. Not a lot of good options.

Thanks for all the help Cvaria. I enjoy reading your posts.

Ok, so now you have a Solid and a Rubber Mount Sporty.

I'm interested in hearing from your perspective (someone who normally rides a solid mount)...first observations of differences after jumping on a rubber mount

I not going to criticize you for trying the wrinkle paint; but it doesn't look good

Hers (the '07) is definitely smoother, but I would wouldn't describe my '03 as a boneshaker, either. The shifter on hers has a much shorter throw on it than mine does, not sure why that is. Didn't notice any substantial difference in its handling from mine. She is very happy that hers has EFI instead of a carb, gives her one less thing to think about while she is getting the hang of riding.
