damn, those vibrations act quick!

They can remove a bolt faster than I can with a wrench.

Also cut open my ham can a bit more, was running without it and I like it but im trying to decide if I want to run it like this instead of completely open.
dont think I want to run it closed, as the IAT are much higher with it. not sure if it really matters but I figured opening the front will move the area around a lot faster / and get that nice cool air instead of sucking it off the heads.
Might cut the whole thing around, so its more of like a plate, basically where the end of the radius is..
Did this by hand in one attempt with a jigsaw, pretty impressed!
Ill repaint it once I decide if Im leaving like this or cutting more of the top off.

Cold air intake lol

not bad for handheld jigsaw!

Just a hint
Did you put masking tape on the seam where you cut? Mine is chrome and I like what you did but am worried the chrome on the ham can will flake off with a saw cut.

ALSO those sharp areas you left at 90 degrees where the stock area meets your inward cut...I'd put a radius on them. You could really open your hand if cleaning the bike and your wrist if it gets grabbed by that harsh edge.

Other than that...that mod looks super!!! Like others said I doubt you'd get more air flow by cutting more away and making it plate like you mentioned. This way you are getting some raw air flowing inward.

THANKS for the pics!!!

Good idea, didnt think of that, but that does look like a gnarly edge waiting to bite me lol Ill round her over on a sander.
No tape, didnt think about it, just eye balled and went for it. Figured it needed a repaint anyway.
It does keep it about as cool with the front exposed as it does with the whole cover off. Tested yesterday in ~70 degree ambient, and this thing was pulling 95 degree intake temps, and with the cover off if I got it just right I could get 93. so Ill take that as its as cool as its going to get.
might have to do one more test with this cover and exposed @ WOT, but I seriously doubt there would be much difference.

I'd be lying if I didn't say I thought about it a time or 2, but I'm the person that would try it and the front fork would fall off in mid air. I understand that hard landings on the front wheel can do some damage on the Sporty, so I probably will stick to watching YouTube biker fail videos, ha ha.

That's great.

I don't even have a seat on her yet.

But after a few blips on the throttle I couldn't resist so I took her for a run (well....a couple actually) around the block. I sat on the seat base but kept sliding off onto the rear light mounts. They were actually quite comfortable.

Then when I got back, I replaced a few (non critical) nuts and bolts that had fallen off.
I had not gotten to them on my "punch list" and they vibrated loose.

I really hadn't intended to ride her at all but it couldn't be helped.

There are some minor things to tend to but I'm feeling it.
Very cool! I know that feeling.

Getting close!

A buddy of mine had the magnets in his alternator break loose from hard landings after wheelies on his Buell, same sporty engine.

Slamming a pot hole would probably do the same thing eventually.

But why add stress unnecessarily.

Wheelies were fun and cool at a certain 'age'.

Now a great deal of money and electronics are dedicated to keeping the front on the ground, where it can do its job.
