Replaced the 8 year old battery (it still started the bike) and put a chrome battery cover on while I was there. Changed the seat mount nut and went for a ride.

 

Picked up a few goodies now just gotta install , lol

 

A dual front brake setup is certainly a sensible upgrade.

Well the 1200 is down because of a clutch issue so, I rolled the 883 out this morning to ride it to work. Had my helmet, jacket, backpack with lunch in it on, turned the key and hit the starter button... CLICK... Tried it again, CLICK.

The original battery in the 2017 883 has finally given up. At least it died at home in the driveway.

 

The first cold start is the hardest!

 

I took my bike for its annual MOT (inspection) and another chap there with his bike was having a few problems but the tester was really good and has all the tools to sort it out. It unfortunately meant the bike was switched on for a long time and at the end of all of that it wouldn't start.

The guy tells us the bike isn't used much but is on a tender. The tester / inspector who runs the place says it is a problem that a tender keeps a battery fully charged but it isn't reporting on how the capacity and therefore cranking ability has degraded over time.

 

I thought I was going to throw a full blown hissy fit this afternoon. I bought a new battery for the SuperLow this afternoon and installed it. Then I noticed the fuel gauge was not working WTF.

I figured that since I had powered everything down when I unhooked the old battery the tach/speedo needed to be reprogrammed or something. I tried to program the fuel gauge 6-7 times and it would not function, so I gave up and figured I'd have to buy another sensor. I just replaced it a few months ago.

I went back out later and thought I'd try again for s**ts & giggles but this time I was sitting on the bike so it wasn't on the sidestand. BINGO, the fuel gauge suddenly started working, I'm at a loss to explain why the bike sitting upright made any difference but it did.

Hissy fit avoided...

Now it's on to the 1200 and figure out whats going on with the clutch.

 

Maybe being on the sidestand puts the sensor in a bind. Otherwise I have no idea

 

Unfortunately, the cataract in my right eye has progressed rapidly over the past few weeks, I can no longer see out of that eye so I won't be riding my motorcycles until I have the cataract removed. My optician has said that it will be a six to eight weeks wait until I have the cataract surgery, I had my left eye done eighteen months ago, so I know what to expect. The surgery only takes around ten to fifteen minutes to perform using a local anesthetic, so I will be fully awake during the operation.

I have several jobs to do on my Iron 883 while it is laid up in the garage, I will be installing a larger fairing, a four piston CVO front brake caliper and brake hose, new piggyback shocks, higher handlebars, a new oil pressure switch, new side covers, new Avon Cobra Chrome tyres, a rear drive pulley cover, new black upper fork covers to replace my home made ones that are on at the moment and new mirrors with integrated LED turn signals in the stalks.

I will also be installing LED turn signals front and rear on my XR1200.

I will also be installing a fly screen and a new instrument rising bracket on my BSA Gold Star 650.

I have plenty to keep me occupied while I'm waiting for my eye surgery.
