Inspired by ETRN, I renewed the little kickstand bits. The spring & clip were fine but they were teenagers... The new bushings made a huge difference.

Today, I bought myself a 2009 XR1200, £4800 with a box full of spares, including the stock mufflers, crash bars and stock mirrors, see the images of it below.

For the meantime I'm keeping the Iron 883, I've already bought Avon Cobra Chrome tyres for it, I'll have those installed soon, fit a new fairing on it and I've installed higher bars to replace the straight drag bars, I'll install the skid plate that I bought a couple of years ago. I already have two potential buyers for the Iron 883.

It is a very nice bike. A friend has just recently got one himself.

Well done, and well bought. How do you like the riding position?

The riding position is comportable, it's a good bit taller in the seat than my Iron 883, I only have a 30" inseam, so I can't quite flat foot when seated. I have a pair of cowboy boots with cuban heels, they will help me to flat foot. I used to wear similar boots forty years agfo when I rode my old Laverda 1200. The XR1200 is that I've bought is a Japanese market import.

I've lusted after one of these for a while, but thought the seat height to be an issue as I too have a 30" inseam. I know when I test rode a Triumph Thruxton, that was the deal killer on an otherwise attractive and rather affordable bike.

Now that I've settled-in on my '16 Forty Eight, I doubt I'll find anything I enjoy quite as much, though an XR1200 still draws my eye. Enjoy...as I'm certain you will...

Thank you for your reply,

I'm sure that I will get used to the height of the XR1200's seat, I'm not as flexible as I used to be when I had the Laverda.

My BSA Gold Star 650 has just the right seat height for me to be comfortable.

Thank you, John,

I'd been hankering about getting an XR1200X for a few years, but one never came up at the right price for me. When a friend decided to sell his XR1200 at a very reasonable price, I just had to buy it.

All the fluids and brake pads gave recently been changed. The XR has 33,000 miles on the clock, but as you can see it has been well looked after.
