Went to a bike night with a difference to see this old girl doing some taxi runs.

The ramp that came with the lift was a bit too steep and slippery. Thought about some grip tape and then remembered my race ramps. Used a ratchet strap and a 4x4 for support and bingo, grippy and easy to load.

The race ramps are the bees knees, a bit expensive now but I’ve had them for years and they never let me down. The lift is working great, I feel like a surgeon working standing up, tried to get the better half to indulge me by assisting but she refused - 1/4 drive T25 on a 3 inch STAT.

Got the 07 up now and starting the 1200 swap. Hopefully, in a few weeks old Herbie will have a 9.9:1 1200 with stock cams.

Poppy’s a bit sloppy, but it holds.

Walked out into the garage this morning and stared at the blue 883... with 3 qts of expensive Redline oil all over the floor.

Appears the oil drain line has cracked. Aside from the mess, thank God it happened in the garage as a week ago I was out cruising the countryside on it and put 175 miles on it that day. THAT would have sucked BIG time if it had happened then.

Rode the red 1200 to work.

The drain hose cracked and starting leaking a little on the 2008 here. It is odd that the other hoses are all in good shape.

Where is the drain hose cracking ? Is is up closer to the tank ? Since the 'plug'
end is not really supported (or zip tied to anything solid), Just wondering if
flex/movement on the hose eventually causes the cracks ?

thanks,

T.

At the end of the tank connection mine, 2008.

On the 2017 bikes the hose is clipped up at the drain plug end.

When I got down on the floor I saw the entire hose down by the plug has cracks in it. I keep an eye on stuff and had never seen cracks in the hose when changing the oil.

Since both my bikes are '17's I'm going to buy two hoses and clamps. I will give the 1200 a good looking over.

God I hated to see $63 worth of Redline 20w50 with only 800 miles on it all over the floor.
