Damn think i have to get into the clutch case eventually..God, more wrenching than riding. Will make the solonoid button first to see if it works..also maybe the EXIDE 12v 14ah does not have enough CCA to get it going.. cos the spec isn't listed anywhere. (the Exide battery for Royal Enfield bullet 350/500)

Has anyone been able to change the ring gear on the clutch basket of the sporty like the big twins?? I couldn't find anything on the internet as well.

I got the bike out and rode approximately 3 miles from the house and it started raining. I turned around and went home. 2 minutes after getting in the heavens opened.

I had heard the ring gear is welded on in a few spots and you could grind it off and weld on a new one. That didn't look like the case on my 2003 when I last had it apart. Seemed to me you had to replace the clutch basket. They do make billet clutch baskets with replaceable ring gears which didn't seem to be much more expensive than the stock basket. I didn't need to replace mine so I didn't buy one.

Has anyone re-located their speedometer to the front of the handle bars on their 1200 Custom? Talking a 2008 model. I found a bracket on flea bay, but not sure if that's all it takes. Knowing the Motor Companies tendencies, figure it may be more involved. Thank you!

I liked the location on my '99 and put a separate tach outboard. It was an easy process. Guessing you could mount a dual purpose speedo/tach out there and I think it would look fine.

I think you can use a speedo mount/idiot lights bar from the "Seventy Two" models.....

There may be a few older threads about this, but I have not searched for them...
EDIT: I found one, but it's converting to a Low type mount...

My garage was raided twice last week by local kids, they entered by smashing a hole in the corrugated asbestos roof, it is a small hole that an average sized adult wouldn't manage to get in through, so it was kids who did it.Today I moved my Sportster out of my garage to a safe place three miles away.

The theives got away with all my hand tools, a brand new ignition coil and leads for my relocation which I hadn't installed. They also took two spare seats for the Sportster, my stock mufflers, my rechargable LED worklight, my 500Kg bike lift, a brand new Royal Enfield 350 Bullet centre stand, I was going to try and adapt it to fit my Sportster.

The Sportster and my Benelli 900 Sei were chained together with lots of locks on the wheels, I also have five locks on the door. They targeted the weak spot which was the roof. A joiner has repaired the roof and he has attached a solid wooden prop from the floor to the roof, I will now give up the garage as it is rented from a local authority. I will move the Benelli out on Friday to a safe place, I might even sell it after 38 years of ownership. I will keep the Sportster.

Sorry to hear that, thieves are the scum of the Earth. Check your local Craigslist to see if the stolen items come up for sale, then nail the little SOBs.

Sorry to hear this RobRoy. It's getting harder & harder these days to find "a safe place" to house
anything... Cars, motorcycles, firearms, etc. One of the reasons I'm moving to a remote
area in eastern Tennessee soon....

Just wondering, how did the perps/scumbags know what you had in your "garage" ?

good luck,

T.

I am sorry to here that. I often worry about that happening where I live as the garage is not alarmed and my area of Orange County is seeing a rapid influx of homeless which are almost all drug addicts so property crime is on the rise. Even if you did find the stuff on craigslist or something I am not sure I would do anything about it short of calling the cops, which would be a big waste of time where I live. Not worth getting shot or stabbed trying to recoupe some stollen stuff.
