I'm not sure how long I'll run these super quiet mufflers. I don't need the attention of the strightshots, but I'd like a little more rumble. Eventually I'll try some different slipons. I'm just glad I have the stock header system now. That balancing pipe really lets the motor run smoother. And I have to admit, I'm among the six or seven people in the world who prefer the look of the stock system on these solid-mount Sportsters.
I'm not over the moon about the look of the OEM exhaust, but it definitely performs better than fully open exhaust.

My 2003 883 came with de-baffled OEM exhaust. It ran like crap, had no low-end torque, was so loud the neighbors complained AND gave me a headache after a 30 minute ride. I switched to unmodified OEM mufflers and all those issues were gone. It's still not what I would call a quiet bike, but it's no longer obnoxious, and behaves properly at low RPMs.

What I REALLY want is a Supertrapp 2-into-1 for even better low end torque while still being able to keep noise to reasonable levels. But that involves modifying the right side foot controls since I have forwards, and would need an extender for the peg and a new connecting rod at a weird angle to get around the front header. Expensive to do for a lowly 883.

Looks like a mid 60's 450 tank on a 70's 350, never saw that before. Wasn't a popular tank style, but back in the 60's I liked it. I had a '71 CB350, was as quick and higher top end than a '68 450 I had. If only it had handling to match... Still had fun with it.

....
My 1200 had drag pipes when I got it, those had to go. Got stock take offs, I think from a Nightster, think the slash cut looks better than the usual stock sportster mufflers. Probably sounds the same, little bit of rumble, nothing obnoxious. Improved performance, too, you need more than bigger carb jets for straight pipes to run decent.

It’s a 1969 CL350 I customized back around 1980. I thought the old 450 tank would look good as a café tank, and they were cheap back then. It’s a fast little bike to just have a 325 cc engine.

I occasionally rode my 350 with a few guys with Harleys, newest was a shovel, and they were surprised the 350 not only could keep up with them, but was faster. I had a 305 Superhawk that could also run away from stock Harleys, but that was in the panhead days, and a lot of bikes could do that. I still would have traded it for a panhead.

Back around 1970-1971 I rode with a bunch of guys with 350s. One had put a Powerall (?) 435 kit and a cam in it. That thing was FAST! He traded it for a ratty old Panhead chopper, and after he worked the bugs out of it, I think he was happy with the trade. I put a half fairing, some different pipes, and higher gearing on my 350 and it had more top end than the old big twin Harleys, BSAs, and Triumphs I rode with…till a guy showed up with an XLCH…lol

Swapped the 2.1 gal peanut tank off my Seventy-Two with a refinished, custom painted 4.4 gal tank from a '15 Sportster Custom. I loved the gold flake 2.1 gal tank but I need moar fuel!
