I actually just removed the fork brace off my 2001 sporty after 10 years of having it on there and I can't tell any difference. You would have to do some pretty hard braking in the corners to really notice it. I liked the way it looked but it interfered with my new front fender mounts. Maybe I'll install it on my FXR.

Yes, the fork brace improves the handling all round, straight line stability, cornering and braking.

It was a good investment.

After grips replacement, had another look around the bike. Noticed that paint near rear spark plug peeled off.

You could cover that up with a set of Head bolt bridges, H-D part # 44296-04, they fit all rubber mounted Sportster models with highlighted fins. The only take a few minutes to install.

If you are on a limited budget and can do without the bar & shield logo, the plain ones below are available on eBay USA @ $28.14. The item number is 384970702132, the seller is in Loudon, Tennessee.

I have the all black H-D ones on my Iron 883.

Continuing to work on straightening out the fuel system. Tank off. Used my borescope which was pretty cool.

Tried soaking with lacquer thinner to remove the shoddily installed sealer. Didn't do much, but did loosen some of the sealer on the tank bottom.

Currently soaking in acetone which has already done more than lacquer thinner. Guessing I'll have to do this a few times to get the old sealer out before I can actually see how bad the rust/corrosion is.

Some put jagged objects in the tank and agitate to help dislodge the liner.
