I took my ‘21 48 in to the dealer yesterday to look at a squealing rear brake. It’s been doing it since not too long after the break-in period. At the 1,000K checkup, the dealer took the pad out and filed it a bit and asked me to try a few things. It didn’t work, and since I have a 4-day weekend, I made an appointment to bring it in. The checked everything: caliper, rotor… Everything looked good. So they added a little bit of brake pad goo to the back of the pad, and voila! No more squeal!
Now for the bad news…
I get back from the dealer and as I am getting off the bike, I notice what appears to be oil stains running down the front left corner from between the top and lower rocker box covers of the rear cylinder. I grab a rag and touch it, but it’s dry as a bone. I have no idea how or when it would have happen. I keep an eagle eye for stuff like this, but in fairness it’s actually kind of hard to notice unless you get kind of close and look at the bike from a certain angle. So I rode the bike for several hours this morning and got off the bike and checked. Bone dry.
The bike is still under warranty, so I’ll take it in and have them take a look at it. I was thinking about switching the stock too covers for wrinkle black ones, so maybe I’ll just have them do it then as long as they’ll be looking at it.

Be great if just cleaning up the threads with a die worked, but that's a lot of damage and the nut gets a lot of torque. Even if it took it, I'd worry it would come loose and that would be even more expensive. Nice thing about a pre-2004 sportster, you don't have to split the cases to get that out if chasing the threads doesn't work or you decide you wouldn't trust it. How about letting us know how it goes.

Help my brother purchase a like-new 2018 Sportster XL883L Superlow for an awesome price with only 9 miles on the odometer. Now he just has to make it his own...of course, referred him to DK Customs.
II sold my 1971 FLH Shovelhead and my 1980 Ironhead but surely miss my 2011 Sportster XL1200L...I could buy a new or like-new bike just with the mods I put into it to make it my own.
