Actually the Sporty is the Boss's, " wifes ", and we bought the 2017-1200 Custom last weekend. After we talked about her really wanting the 2020-883 that had caught her eye, we traded the 1200 back in for the new bike today. She is very happy and the new Sporty handles great.

And it is cheaper to insure as an 883. Can always do the 1275 kit at a later date when she
wants "more power"

Got my Outlaw 587 intake with smooth bobber cover and Premium Discrete Breather from DK Customs yesterday. Sadly have to wait a couple more months to get the bike back from storage before I can do the swap. *grumble*

Any reason why Permatex High Temp Thread Sealant would be a poor choice for thread locking when installing this kit, or should I use something else? Yes, I'm still a noob.

On the air filter I have not used any kind of thread locker or gasket goo. There is no call for it in the FSM.

DK may recommend it but nothing should come loose if done to the correct torque setting. Although not this particular air filter kit I have an SE air filter on one bike and stock on the other nothing has come loose without thread locker.

I have a friend who goes by Screw Loose Dan, because he didn't use thread locker on the screws for his air cleaner. One came loose on his 2007 Sporty and was sucked into his intake with devastating results. If the screws/bolts are in a position where they can get sucked into the intake it may be worth considering.

Granted he is the only one I know of where that happened and who knows if he torqued them, but ...

I use the permatex instead of the loctite brand thread locker (not thread sealant). But use the blue (medium) not the red (high).

Yes, absolutely use any brand medium thread locker on your air cleaner threads. There is no harm in it and it could prevent a problem (even if you do torque them to spec).

On some of our test bikes there have been, literally, hundreds of air cleaners installed on the same bike....thread locker every time, with no down side.

OK, thanks. I'd gotten the red for when I did the primary fluid change. Not that getting a separate tube for this is going to break the bank or anything, but I just wanted to be sure that there was a specific reason for using something different. Thanks much!

What did you use it on?

Permatex 24300 would be my choice from their product line as it looks to be very similar to Loctite 243 which is HDs preferred medium strength thread lock.
