Primary oil vent Poblem
Hi, My wife's 2000 883 developed a primary oil venting problem. The vent tube ends on top of the engine oil tank and after several miles primary oil puddles on top of the oil tank and then runs down the right side of the bike. I changed the oil thinking it may have been overserviced but no help.. Please help!!

RE: Primary oil vent Poblem
Hey Turbolarry,
I bought a 2002 883 about 6 months ago. I had the same problem when I first got the bike. Oil would blow out the oil tank breather tube, down the back of the tank and then all over the back tire. It only seemed to occur at highway speeds, 65mph+. I took it back to the dealer and they told me it had the wrong oil filter on it. I got it back and it did the same thing. I again took it back to the dealer and told them the only thing I did to the bike was a Screamin Eagle high flow kit. They then said the kit was defective because the breather holes for the heads were too small (come to find out they were designed that way). They then drilled the holes bigger. I got the bike back and it did it again! I then decided to switch to Mobil 1 synthetic. I changed the oil and filter myself this time. Problem solved. I don't know if the dealer again put the wrong filter on or if it was the Mobil 1 synthetic that fixed the problem. Hope this helps.
