Default New guy with a few nightster questions

Hey folks!

Just said hello in the newbie forum and thought I'd do the same. Just came of crotch rockets and bought a 2012 denim black nightster.

The bike is pretty standard with the exception of V&H short shorts, air cleaner and tune.

Basically I want to go down the route of a cafe or hot rod style type bike trying to do as much work on it as I can myself.

I've look through some threads and got some great info but my local dealer was an arm and a leg to do stuff. Basically I read up on drag bars and replacement cables. Many on here say replacement cables are not required for drag bars and your left with an inch or so snaking around the front end. Is it that noticeable? What would be the situation if I got a set of clip ons?

Going with the racer idea I like the look of wrapped pipes. The short shots on the bike are the black ones ie ceramic coated?? Can these be wrapped without any hassle or the engine going into thermal melt down??

Seat wise well I ain't decided on that just yet. Maybe chopping the rear fender and keeping the standard seat for a cafe style rear end or finding a different seat altogether?

I have mechanical knowledge but hands on experience well is next to nothing so I hope none of this is too complex!

Anyway hello and hope you can help!

Welcome! I found this forum to be great source of information and inspiration.
And yes - great deals in classified section. Buying used parts will save you some $$
As for V&H short shots - you can remove black heat shields and wrap pipes. you can probably sell those heat shields here

That's a great looking Nightster. I almost bout the exact same bike, but the egine in the one at the local didn't look right. The powder coating on the cylinders had an almost milky haze. They tried to wash it off (Ha!) but it wasn't coming off.

Good luck with yours and keep us posted on your modifications!
