Yep mine does it as well,
about 15-30 seconds after I start it, it just appears to pause for a fraction of a second, then all is good.
I just wait for to happen before I take off now.
All is good after that.

Well I experienced something on both EFI Sporties. You hit the start button a bump, then again and the starter keeps turning with no fire. Turn off then on again it starts right up. Another thing I don't like about the EFI engine is no matter how hot the engine is, it idles fast until youride it a mile or less. You can ride it all day, 80 outside. Go into a store for one minute start the bike back up and back to fast idle. Doesn't make any sense.

My guess on the fast idle at startup is it has no memory. It starts assuming a cold engine and adjusts the idle and mixture until it can data sample to determine operating temp, ambient air, etc. After it gets enough information it adjusts the idle and mix accordingly. My EFI Springer is the same way.
I guess its not too different than what we do with carb bikes, except the process is automated for the EFI crowd. If you have a carb bike, you use your own memory and sensors (fingers) to tell how warmed up the mengine is. Then you manually adjust the choke and throttle at startup accordingly.
No idea on the hesitation at startup. I'd guess to agree with the idea its the open-close loop control. Some newer BT's had issues relating to bad injectors but I haven't heard anything similar with respect to Sportsters.

So here is the million dollar question? Why doesn't the ECM check voltage from the temp sensor to determin the idle issue? Most likely doesn't have one. So what happens. It idles up the bike every stinking time you start it and relies on the voltage from the O2 sensor to bring the idle down or is it a timed program?
