Talking Solo spring seat questions

I have 2012 iron 883 and im looking for solo spring seat but I want to clarify some stuff.

1- what do I need to get with the seat to fit it?

2- what brand is the best for the ride comfort and look?

1- buy a complete set (seat, front bracket, spring) if you're not able to build it yourself

2- any poster here will give his own advice on the seat he bought, so you'll get 100 different advices & brands to get

3- Do a search, this kind of question has been asked a gazillion times, at least...

There are a couple of different things you need for spring seat:
1. Springs
2. front hinge or mount plate.
There are kits out there by Mother Roads Customs and LePera that have the cover plate, springs and hinge kit all in one. They are pricey.

Next you need a seat. It can be a pan, pan and foam(have someone make the cover for you) or get a complete seat already covered. Lots of choices out there and prices vary from $50-450(USD).

Comfort: This is a tough one. Most of the spring seats will have less than 1 inch of foam. Usually very dense.
Here is a pic of a seat we made. Feel free to PM me for my details. I can help you out with more details and options.

You can check out our site..... the complete kit has everything you will need to make the transition to a solo seat. As far as comfort goes, if you are looking for the most suspension travel, check out the barrel springs. They are what Kevin rides.

Here is what Kevin did to the leather on the seat to really make it his own

I bought my iron used and it came with the hd solo spring seat. Fitment was spot on as with most hd parts, but not very comfortable. Looks awesome though. I like the old school look spring seats give a bike!

I have a Rich Phillips seat with the gel insert. I love it. Very comfy with the springs. I have probably 4,000 miles on the seat so far. I also recently got a matching swing arm bag and a tool bag from them. Made in the USA!

Can you talk a bit more about the rich Phillips seat, does it have a particular name/ style with it. Can you upload a few pics of it if you have a moment and ahh yes, the cost.
