Rather stuck with this clutch question. 2013 Sportster XL1200C, 3676 miles on the clock. While on the HOG Rider Skills Training, the clutch suddenly started to engage right at the beginning of the clutch pull, and there is just no play between the clutch hand lever and cable, something must have slipped. But, with metrics when the clutch cable slips or stretches the cable gets longer. Clutch engages at the end of the pull, too close to the handle bar grip. Why would my sporty cable suddenly seem to have shortened? Reluctant to adjust the clutch as set out in the Delboy's garage video for fear I will be tightening the clutch even further, The bike is so new I have not even had time to order the workshop manual. Wish I knew what could have happened to my clutch. Kinda up the creek without a paddle.

I'd take it to the dealer and let them fix it under warranty.

Thanks cHarley, will do that first thing tomorrow morning.
Managed to add more slack to cable using cable adjuster, not correct, but will be enough to get across town to Harley dealer. I would be most suprised if they fix it under warranty, as clutch not covered.

While normal clutch wear and the required service interval adjustments are not covered by warranty, your sudden loss the clutch adjustment may well be covered. I'd make it clear to the dealer that the clutch went out suddenly.

Good Luck

Thanks so much for your help cHarley.
Spoke to the dealer and head mechanic. They looked at it, and adjusted the clutch, but they will have to fix the clutch after new year, under warranty if they get approval, which can be good news for me!!!. Strange this clutch thing, in all the years and years of riding "junk" in the past, I have never had problem with a clutch. Guess it happens.
