Default Tuning Required Changing Slip-on Muffler ?

I'm a Harley newbie, just got a 2013 Sportster 72. I am thinking of getting the Bassani slip-on mufflers and wondering if that requires a re-tune or not ?? Seemed like on the forum that different people had different experiences, sometimes the tuning was fine, sometimes there were problems like top end power drops etc

Also, is the re-tune a dealer only thing or is it possible to have other shops do it, can you do it yourself ?

Thanks

Anyone with the skills and equipment can tune your bike. You can do it yourself with an auto tuner. But just putting slip on mufflers you don't need to do anything.

Slip-ons only usually requires no re-tune. Should be able to bolt on & go. If you do anything with intake AND slip-ons, then you're most likely looking at retune - but I have heard others say not.

From what I understand Harleys leave the factory tuned lean because of EPA emission regulations and could benefit from a fuel tuner even with the stock set-up. I first installed slip-ons without tuning and felt I was running hot because of the already lean fuel mix becoming worse. I then installed this: Cobra FI2000R Digital Fuel Processor (Closed Loop) 692-1621CL. Made my 2013 '72 run much better and cooler. Even the sound is better. Now I don't worry that I'm damaging my engine. I did lose a few mpg's but it's worth it. I'm going to get a free flowing breather next to complete the stage 1 upgrade and see if my mpg's improve. The slip-ons and tuner increased power noticebly.

If you have stock air you can change pipes with no tune

If you want the full benefit get it tuned.

Read this from the makers of the XiED. Even though they are trying to sell things that would make your bike not run as lean and A LOT cheaper than a tuner, they have posted this to be perfectly honest with people.
