Default Jet sizes???

Hello all. I have a 2005 883c Sportster, bought it back in July of 2013 with 2200 miles on it. Super clean! It has stage 1 air filter, SE spark plug wires and Samson long barrel exhaust(that I have seen online). On the carb it has the easy adjust screw for the mix but with 5 turns it still farts etc. I know that is to much so I pulled the carb off and opened it up, it has a 42 and an 170 jets in there. So I want to redo the whole carb what kit and jet sizes are the best for my bike? Thank you

Mine is running 42/175 with 2-1/4 turns summer, 2-1/2 turns winter on the mixture screw with the CV Performance kit and a stock slide. That's been dyno tuned by myself to verify proper mixtures.

Sounds like you need to go up a size on the pilot. Try a 45.

If you're going in, I'd replace the needle with a N65C. Don't think Harley sells them anymore (p/n is 27094-88), but they are available thru CV Performance:

I want to get the premium kit so I think I seen on CVP site you can specify what jets you want is this correct? As I am getting the rebuild kit too. So get an 44 and 45 and a 175 and 180 is that correct and go from there?

Fine print says jets are predetermined and may not be substituted...but that kit should give you everything you need (if they know what they are doing). Maybe call and see what jets are in the kit for the 883 to verify.

I would not drill the slide or use the lighter spring. Get it running right first, then you can experiment.

A 180 main will be too large (rich) for an 883, stay with a 170 or 175. SInce you're 5 turns out with a 42 pilot, I'd recommend going to a 45 pilot.

I agree with this...and you don't need a kit, just buy the jets...

I ordered the Cv performance tuners kit for my 883, it came with 42,44 pilots ;170,175 mains. I'm running 44 pilot 175 main, emulsion tube included, lighter spring,2.25 turns out on a/f screw, hole not drilled on slide on my 883 and I Still get an occasional carb fart! but runs way better!

When we did my sons 2006 883 we tried both the 175 and the 180 main on his and his runs much better with the 180 according to the dyno testing. We also use the 44 on the slow jet.

42 and 175 for that setup

Also could be the air filter needs to be cleaned. with 2,200 miles on an 8 year old bike, plenty of time sitting still, and for dust, spider webs etc to be in the air filter.
